Christmas Day 2010

David is pretending to be asleep still but really he was awake first, I think around 5:50 he said. The kids all sleep in the same room together on Christmas eve and aren't allowed to get up until at least 7. They call the house phone from a cell phone to tell us they are awake but it's never been later than 7, pretty much 7 on the dot when the phone rings. Then we come up to get them.
Waiting....
Merry Christmas! Here they are opening some family gifts together. We got a lot of family gifts this year from Santa, fun things to do together.
David got a tennis racket. He went to a BYU sports camp for tennis this last summer and loved it.
The girls got embroidered swim towels with their names on them. Now they can't lose their towels at practice or meets and we Abbott's are a little obsessed about school spirit, notice Katie's hat? Go tigers!
Katie seriously asked for a zebra print snuggie for Christmas this year. We have kind of laughed for years about how silly these are. The camp theme this year is "It's a jungle out there" and Katie is a 2nd year YCL. We have chosen as a mascot the zebra so I think this is where this is coming from. However, after opening it, all of us have sort of been stealing it to watch movies, etc. because it really is soft and warm.
I probably should have posted the video from Caroline opening this present because the pictures do no justice.
She screamed, squirmed, laughed, screamed some more and then immediately went to the phone and called Brother Schill. This is a tanning kit. Yes, you heard me. Not the kind of tanning you do in a booth before a tropical vacation. No, the kind of tanning you do to an animal skin. Caroline has had a raccoon skin frozen in the Schill's freezer for a long time waiting for this (again I apologize to the Schill's). This story may need its own post as soon as the process begins, stay tuned.
Katie looking over her score of the Messiah. She and I both got copies for Christmas. Now we can sing along with more confidence at the next sing-in!
All 3 boys got remote controlled stunt planes this year. We saw someone flying them at the park this past summer and it looked so fun so that's what they asked for. These planes are super durable(repeated crashes) and can do some amazing twists, turns and dives. The planes we saw had streamers flying behind and you try to hit the other plane's streamer to "win", I guess, you know, boy thing. They are called assassins. More on this later, too.
The kids got Nelson a new robe this year. It might be revealing too much but his last robe he got before his mission, 26 years ago. We should've kept it for Michael to take on his mission but Nelson threw it in the trash that very day. Enough said.
I got Nelson a new drill this year. His old one made smoke when being used, pretty scary.
I am afraid Michael may have been a bit disappointed this year for Christmas. Life if rough when you are starting to prepare for a mission. I hope it helped that the family got a couple of Wii games so there was something to play with on Christmas day. So yes, he got luggage, nice missionary luggage. Doesn't he look awesome, except for the pajamas, he looks totally legit.
Nana and Grandpa Abbott came over to visit us in the afternoon. Here is Nana and Michael playing air hockey.
Grandpa and David playing Wii Mario Kart.
Michael's roommate Zach came over with a present for Michael, too. He got them both matching pajamas. Isn't that awesome? We love Zach.
Now, these planes don't come assembled or anything. This is pretty much what happened the whole rest of the vacation and they aren't done yet. This is serious business.
The day after Christmas Michael had his Bishop's missionary interview and we had to try for the picture again. Love the shorts.
Here's David laminating his plane. They decorated them, reinforced the edges with super strong tape and then had to laminate them with this cool little iron. More to come, these babies still need a motor and more.

Merry Christmas!
