Swim Banquet

This year, Katie chose to participate in drama at Orem High instead of swim.  Caroline was sad to not have her big sister at swim with her.  Partway through the year, Katie's schedule opened up a little and she got to join the team late in the season and swim a few times.  Here are pictures from the end of year swim banquet with both girls.

The girls swim team took first place at region this year, way to go girls!  Coach Chris had the trophy there that night with all of the girl's names on it so we had to get a picture!

Here they are with all of their awards.  Caroline got a spirit award (the swim cap) and each girl got an award from the captains.  Katie was so surprised that she got a senior towel, a tradition for the outgoing seniors.  She was touched that they remembered her and were so generous.

Really Katie came for the bread, she loves the bread at The Old Spaghetti Factory.  

Caroline was awarded the Most Improved Swimmer for the girls this year.  Wow, we were so excited!  What an awesome accomplishment Caroline!  She was JV last year and this year swam varsity and made it to state.  You rock!

Gold CUPs and CUPcakes

David earned two 30 point gold cups this year from the Utah Federation of Music Clubs for solo and ensemble.  Great job David, keep it up!

Katie earned her 45 point solo cup but missed the gold cup recital because she was at Disneyland on choir tour.  She got her cup at her next lesson afterwards.  Great job Katie!  She is planning to practice hard this summer to complete her senior concerto and earn enough points for a 60 point cup by fall.  You go girl!

We have a bit of a problem with cupcakes.  We love them and cannot stop making them.  Another problem we have is that we LOVE peanut butter and chocolate together.  So, this becomes an even bigger problem when we make peanut butter and chocolate cupcakes.  Oooooooooh........

Spring means Soccer

Winter is over and that means one thing for David....soccer.  Honestly, life comes to a standstill at times without soccer in the winter.  David did play 2 seasons of indoor soccer over the winter but it's just not enough for him.  He loves to play and we love to watch him play.  He plays a lot of midfield and back-up keeper also.  He is a great athlete and sure loves this.  Here are a few shots from a recent game.

Spring Break

We went to St. George for part of Spring Break this year.   The kids had so much fun hanging out with their cousins and the adults had fun, too.

We went golfing and Grandpa Lorin joined us.  Isn't is a gorgeous view?

Here's Katie putting.  She has improved so much.  We rented carts that day and Grandpa Lorin drove her around, brought clubs out to her, and gave her some advice.  She was so spoiled and didn't know how she would go back to life without her top notch caddy.

About a month before spring break, my dad texted me and said Three Dog Night was playing in St. George, was I interested?  YES.  How convenient that it was over spring break!  The weather forced a location change from Tuacahn to the convention center but it was still an awesome concert. 

Big fans waiting for it to start.  I was raised listening to them and so have my kids.  It's fun because they can sing along as much as I can and they love it too!

These guys really are amazing.  They have got to be in or near their 70's and they sound just like all of their recordings.  It was SO fun!

Nelson had depositions in St. George and Cedar City a couple days after we were supposed to go home so I just stayed, he went to church and came back to meet me.  We spent 2 days alone, relaxing by the pool, eating out and reading.  It was so nice to have some time together!

Prom asking and Easter

 We found this pinata hanging in a tree in front of our house one night after a ring of the doorbell produced an empty porch.  Prom this year is on Cinco de Mayo so a pinata is perfect for asking!  Candy is good too.  We broke it open to find candy and cut up magazine pages with letters.  Katie unscrambled the letters and found Tanner Mieure spelled out.  They have been friends for a lot of years and will have a fun time going together.  We don't have pictures of her answering, sorry!

Easter morning is great when we have 12:30 church!  We get to sleep in a little and still have an egg hunt and make ourselves sick before church.  Aren't my kids so good at getting their picture taken?  Yes, so proud.

Caroline's art show

Caroline has been interested in pottery for a very long time.  I think the first time she experienced it and got hooked was several years ago at the Springville Art Museum kids art festival.  She was just mesmerized by the clay and the wheel.  There were lots of different kinds of art the kids could participate in set up on the grounds around the museum.  She stayed at the pottery station all day.  She stood by the potter and asked question after question about everything he was doing.  By the end of the day, she had worked her way into a position as the potters assistant.  She was running to the truck to get more clay, cutting it into pieces, molding it into the right shapes to be ready for the wheel, and handing him tools to make each creation.  Since then, she has taken classes at the Scera, and in Jr High and High school.  She is meticulous and very creative.  The ceramics class was full when we went to register her last year for classes.  I went in to the teacher and convinced her Caroline was someone she wanted in her class.  She proved herself to be one of the top students in the class.  Here she is in a picture taken at the Alpine School District art show.  Orem High was allowed to enter 5 pieces of 3D art and her coil pot was chosen as one of the pieces to enter.  Awesome job for a Sophomore!  Isn't it a cool pot?  We are sure proud of her talent and accomplishments!

Katie's last high school musical and new horizons

Katie has been involved in plays since she was in 5th grade.  This is her 14th play and she student directed 1 other.  Orem High had tryouts for Thoroughly Modern Millie and she was given a part in the chorus.  She has been in the chorus before and it's a lot of fun.  However, I think she has been feeling the clock ticking down to the end of her high school days and wondering if she has done all she wanted.  She told the director thanks, but no thanks, she would be moving on and trying other things.  Then a big surprise came the week before opening night.  At the end of Millie, the "new Millie" arrives in New York and is given a big entrance.  They invited a few of the Senior girls who weren't in the play but have been really involved in the past productions to be the new Millie.  Here is a picture of Katie as she comes on stage.  It was so fun for her to have one last moment in the spotlight.

This is what Katie chose to do for the end of her senior year instead of drama, GOLF!  That's right, Orem High has a girls golf team and they are actually really good.  I think as of right now, we are in 1st place in the region.  So far, Katie has been playing JV and having a great time.  

How fun for her to take the opportunity to do something different and new!  You're awesome Katie!
